Qiuestion: Discuss the six relationship and communication issues that are correlated with low marital satisfaction? Answer: Introduction Like any other relationship marriage too undergoes through periods of distress (Segrin Flora, 2011). In almost all the cases of martial distress, communication is found to play a very vital role. Interpersonal relationship factors, social and economical factors and pre marital factors are the three key factors that lead to martial distress (Fine Harvey, 2013). Patterns of martial communication are recognised to be the key predictor of subsequent declines in marital satisfaction. Communication issues lead to martial distress which in turn results in damaging the communication between husbands and wives. Six relationship and communication issues that are correlated with low marital satisfaction When communication between husband and wife is marked by criticism, disagreement and guilt induction it leads to highest marital dissatisfaction (Burleson Denton, 1997). Conversations of this type often result in considerable negative effects or emotions which soon become evident in their behaviours(Baucom Epstein, 2013). Couples that face issues of reduced martial satisfaction, exhibit negativity when they interact with each other which in turn gives rise to negative emotions (Berger Hannah, 2013). Negative communication patterns give rise to negative emotions such as disgust, anger, contempt, fear and sadness which are evident in their non-verbal as well as verbal behaviours(Burleson Denton, 1997). Cross-complaining is a common communication issue where complaints are met with equally strong complaints(Fine Harvey, 2013). These communication issues are some of the most ineffective ways of conflict resolutions and are correlated with low marital satisfaction. Efforts made by ma rried couples to provide negative feedback while communication with each other in order to prove their superiority is another common communication issue that leads to reduced marital satisfaction(Segrin Flora, 2011). Disrespecting each other, talking in a raised pitch and expressing anger publically are some relationship and communication issues faced by married couples and are reasons for reduced marital satisfaction(Baucom Epstein, 2013). Demand-withdrawal patterns where one spouse presents a demand, complaint or criticism and the other spouse responds with defensiveness and withdrawal is also a cause of marital dissatisfaction. Contrary to this appreciating and respecting each other likes, dislikes and choices is correlated with high marital satisfaction(Berger Hannah, 2013). Assertive communication style and a soft tone of voice develop positive perception for each other. While interaction it is important to be a good listener and understand the reason behind complaints rather than complaining in return. Providing emotional support when needed and motivate each other to live their own lives as well while living for the family leads to high marital satisfaction. Developing a relationship of trust by keeping things transparent and well informed helps reducing conflicts. Establishing eye contact while talking to each other and use of words that show respect for individual differences that exists between the couple(Fine Harvey, 2013). Spending quality time together and considering complaints as a feedback from spouse which when addressed will help improving marital relations. Disabled by Wilfred Owen Essays Disabled by Wilfred Owen Paper Disabled by Wilfred Owen Paper Essay Topic: Literature Wilfred Owen was born in Plas Wilmot, Owestry on the 18th March 1893. His family moved Birkenhead in 1897 and then Shrewsbury. He then became a lay assistant in 1913 at the age of 18, and he also spent time tutoring English in France in the same year. In 1916 he was commissioned into the Manchester Regiment, and he fought many battles in the Somme. He was killed in action on the 4th November 1918. He wrote about the harsh reality of war and the pity of war, and these views were evident in Disabled. Rupert Brooke was born in 1887, in Rugby, Warwickshire. He won a poetry prize in 1905. He was well educated and travelled before going to was. He joined the British Royal Navy during the First World War and he died in Greece from septicaemia on the 23rd of April 1915. He was well known for writing poetry about friendship, romanticism and patriotism. Patriotism is very evident in The Soldier. The poem Disabled by Wilfred Owen is about a young man who lost his arms and legs in the war. He thought that war would gain him glory, but he only gained misery and isolation. Furthermore the title Disabled is emotive, it makes the reader feel negatively towards the poem from the beginning. Verse one reveals that he is confined to a wheelchair and he lives in a hospital. There is a very ugly atmosphere of misery and tragedy in this verse, created by the colours and sounds mentioned. Sounds such as voices of boys rang, represents what he will never be and what he has lost. The voices are a sad reminder of his former life, before he was injured in the war. The colour grey is mentioned too, which also creates a sad, miserable and bleak atmosphere and reflects the monotonous, boring life he has. Darkness is also mentioned in verse one, waiting for dark. This suggests he wants to hide his maimed body in the dark. Furthermore he wants to sleep eternally in the darkness; die and escape his life on unhappiness. Personification is also found in the last line of verse one, Till gathering sleep had mothered them from him. Sleep is personified as his mother, protecting him from his terrible life; it helps him escape reality. Sleep and darkness and therefore connected offering him a refuge. The first three lines of verse two are a contrast to verse one. They contrast with the mood of darkness as the first three lines are focused on light or happiness; glow-lamps, gay and lovelier. Furthermore the word swing in the first three lines of verse two contrasts with the word sat in verse one. The word sat is motionless and lifeless, when compared to swing which represents movement and life. Therefore verse one shows the lifelessness of the soldier after the war and the first three lines of verse two reflects the soldiers vibrancy before the war. Also the word budded is used in the first three lines of verse two, which symbolises new life and not lifelessness as suggested in verse one. Furthermore, the last four lines of verse two contrast with the first three lines of verse two, because they are about the soldiers unhappiness. Whereas the first three lines are about the happy past that the young soldier remembers. In the past girls looked at him with interest, girls glanced lovelier. The present brings him nothing but memories of the past, Now he will never feel again how slim Girls waists are. The poet also conveys his views of war when he writes, he threw away his knees. This suggests that the poet, Wilfred Owen, feels war is a waste and it is pointless. Furthermore it suggests that there is no glory in war. Verse three begins with the image of an artist who wanted to paint the soldiers face because it looked so young before he went to war, There was an artist silly for his face. It then moves on to the present, Now, he is old. This means the war has made the soldier feel old and it made him lose his youthful vitality. Another point that indicated the soldier has lost his youth is Hes lost his colour. Furthermore this could reflect the blood he lost in the war. Poured it down shell-holes till the veins ran dry also links with the fact that he poured his vitality away in the war; half his lifetime lapsed in the hot race also reflects this. The last line of verse three And leap of purple spurted from his thigh is also symbolic purple, as the colour of mourning, which suggests the soldier mourns for the loss of his limbs, youth and vitality. Verse four reveals his initial thoughts of what the army would be like and reveals the reasons why he joined. He joined to please his girlfriend to please his Meg. He liked the idea of jewelled hilts, smart salutes, the spirit and body of the army Esprit de corps, the drums and cheers he would receive and the idea of holidays and leave. There are many words in the last five lines which show that he loved the glamorous image of war: jewelled, smart salutes, pay arrears and cheers. He didnt consider the horrors of war he had no fears of joining the army, And no fears Of fear came yet. Verse four is very long to emphasise how many false, idealistic images of was the soldier entertained. It also emphasises how much the soldier lost in the war. Verse five is very short in contrast to the other verses in the poem. It is a short verse to represent what his life had been reduced to after the war. His many dreams and expectations in the long verse four are now reduced in verse five to reality. He got no cheers when he came back from the war. Only a solemn man, possibly a vicar, brought him fruit as thanks. The word Thanked is in italics, which could show how meaningless the thanks actually is. It also suggests he received very little thanks. The last verse, verse six has a very depressing and pitiful mood. It particularly contrasts with verse four; he could once play football but now he cannot even put himself to bed. The rules suggests he no longer has freedom in life. He also feels rejected, the womens eyes passed from him. How cold and late, represents isolation and depression. The repetition at the end of the verse could emphasise how dependant he now is on other people. Why dont they come And put him to bed? Why dont they come? The Soldier by Rupert Brooke is about a man leaving to go to war. He is very patriotic and he is writing a poem for his family and friends to read if he should die at war. The poem is patriotic right from the very beginning. The title The Soldier creates a heroic and patriotic atmosphere. The first word is If-If I should die. This suggests that he might not die, he is optimistic. In the unlikely event he might die the soldier states that a corner of a foreign field will be forever England. This suggests that wherever he dies will always remain English because his English body will lie there. The Richer dust, in the fourth line could be the remains of his body. He is glorifying his own body as Richer than the foreign soil because it is English and because he would die fighting for his country. The next few lines have personification featured within them. England is personified as a mother to emphasize the soldiers pride in fighting for his glorious country like he loves his mother. Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam. This is similar to Disabled as Disabled also has the personification of a mother featured within it. In line seven the soldier shows he feels he belongs to England, his country a body of Englands. He claims he is washed by the rivers and blest by suns which creates an idyllic in contrast to the harsh reality of war found in Disabled. In line nine an evil is mentioned. The evil could be his own sin or even the enemy nations in the war, which he optimistically believes, will be shed away. Give somewhere back the thoughts by England given and pulse in the eternal mind shows he will die for his country and he feels he has a sense of duty. There are very positive words used at the end of the poem, such as pulse, eternal, dreams, happy, laughter, friends, gentleness, peace and heaven which reveal the soldiers pride and justify his death- should it happen. England and English are repeated six times within the poem which emphasizes patriotism. Even heaven is described as being English. Disabled has six verses varying length. They vary in length to signify different things, for example verse four is very long to signify all of the soldiers hope and dreams. There is no rigid rhyming structure, this may suggest that war is problematic; it cannot be put into a rigid structure. However, The Soldier is written in sonnet form. It had a military feel to it, created by iambic pentameters. This rigid rule of ten syllables per line gives the poem a strong, assured rhythm. Furthermore, The Soldier is written in the first person and Disabled is written in the third person The poet of Disabled, Wilfred Owen, wrote the poem to the message that war is pitiful. War is not glorified it is tragic and destructive. It is a waste of peoples lives and it destroys their inner spirits. The message conveyed by the poet Rupert Brooke in The Soldier, is the opposite of the message conveyed in Disabled. The message he conveys is that fighting in the war is worthwhile. Furthermore, Brooke reveals it is ones duty to fight for ones country and it is a glorious thing to do. I preferred the poem Disabled because of its pure honesty. I like the way it shows the reality of war and does not celebrate the false ideas of glory and duty, found in The Soldier.

The Meaning of Art in Society In this paper we will discuss the concept of art by presenting out perception, defining our preferred art forms and drawing a conclusion by applying the theory of aesthetics, semiology (semiotics) and hermeneutics. The main goal is to look at different art forms in order to evaluate the meaning and place of arts in our society. Animation as an art form Animation, as an art form can be presented as entertainment, education, information, inspiration showing us the world in such a different way we do not imagine it. In this case, we can look at animators as artists and entertainers as well. They are always striving to give us a new perception of the surrounding environment and always doing it in such a funny and simple way. The power of animators is that they can tell edifying story in way that live action could not. By taking us in a new reality, animation professionals show us animated characters presented as real human beings. We can find a lot of common with them because they are all like us with the entire behavior, attitude and feelings. Thus, we could consider the animation as a mirror, reflection of our own physical and mental evolution. In this way, we can conclude that the development of animation goes together with the development of our society. With all the changes in our lives, the massage and the way it is delivered cha nge as well. All the art forms, including literature, painting, sculpture, and dance are about telling a story or making a statement. As a part of this group animation is educational tool and inspiration for all generations because everyone could find some new and useful ideas in such a simple story. Going out of imagination limits this form is accessible for everyone no matter the age, social and financial status. Animation has a rich and long history. The first animation form came on the scene in the early 1900s. J. Steward Blackton produced the first stop-frame animated cartoon, titled Humorous Phases of a Funny Face, in 1906. Another early landmark was Winsor McCays Gertie the Dinosaur (1914), a popular animated feature consisting of 10,000 illustrations hand-drawn on rice paper by the McCay and an assistant. The best known of these film animators was Walt Disney, who in 1928 produced Steamboat Willie starring Mickey Mouse, and who in 1937 brought to the American movie screen the first full-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Disney introduced numerous technical refinements and innovations intro his animated features in order to provide greater realism and to heighten the illusion of depth. Since the early days, animators have used new technologies to their advantage. Some of the techniques used by animators nowadays include cel animation, clay animation, pixelation, rotoscoping, photo montage, puppetry, cut-paper animation, and computer animation, Although the artist remains a dominant figure in the animation process, the introduction of computers has brought about a major transformation in the animation industry. Not only is computer automation cutting production time and costs, it is also producing startling new effects and unprecedented results in the animation features and programs being shown on our television screens, computer monitors, and movie screens. As technology continue to develop and gives us new tools and opportunities the animators will be challenged to use them in order to tell us new entertaining stories and show us the world in new and different way. The future of animation looks to be bright but the development depends on the professionals ability to use the new technologies and methods in the right way striving always to get beyond spectators imagination. The premises for success are not far to seek. Hermeneutics of Animation: Hermeneutics is the study of interpretation theory, and can be either the art of interpretation, or the theory and practice of interpretation. Animation is interpreted as a picture of entertainment. People like to entertain themselves and animation is a good way to escape from the everyday pressure and relax. People always like to feel happy. Animation is inviting people to spend their free time by watching a good production and become a guilty pleasure for some of them. This art form is not about children, culture and social status. Wherever animation is played, class, race and nationality do no longer exist. Peoples roles of judgment and imagination play both in our experiences of animation and its critical interpretation, and reevaluate our current understandings of animations transformative power. Semiotics of Animation: Semiotics deals with meanings and messages in all their forms and in all their contexts(R.E. Innis,1985); the subject matter of semiotics is the exchange of any messages whatsoever in a word communication (T.A. Sebeok ,1994). Animation can be used to exploit familiar processes, or objects that have properties similar to the context of the intended message Animators must also appreciate the need to use appropriate levels of abstraction. Animations should not contain objects or actions which are so detailed that they cause information overload. Equally, animations should not contain objects or actions that are so abstract that they cannot be associated with the real life experiences of the viewer. Leaning Tower of Pisa The Leaning Tower of Pisa or simply the Tower of Pisa the campanile, or freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa. It is situated behind the Cathedral and is the third oldest structure in Pisas Cathedral Square after the Cathedral and the Baptistery. Although intended to stand vertically, the tower began leaning to the southeast soon after the onset of construction in 1173 due to a poorly laid foundation and loose substrate that has allowed the foundation to shift direction. The tower presently leans to the southwest. The Tower of Pisa is a work of art, performed in three stages over a period of about 177 years. Construction of the first floor of the white marble campanile began on August 9, 1173, a period of military success and prosperity. This first floor is a blind arcade articulated by engaged columns with classical Corinthian capitals. According to me as any building construction which is manmade I think that the leaning tower of Pisa is a piece of art because of many reasons. It is considered to be a unique piece of art because of its structure and because of its existing. As you know this tower leans to southwest from its beginning and this made it a really nice art element which is known in the entire word. The fact that everybody knows this monument makes it an art form visited every year by tourists from all over the world. What I like in this monument and make it e real piece of art is that when they started to build, the tower collapsed because of the soft soil under it. People who were involved in this construction did not give up. By this time the Pisans (people from Pisa) were in civil war with Genoa, Lucca and Florence so they leave the tower for almost a century and after that they started to build again, because this was the symbol of their city and this shows their love and passion to the city and why this monument is so special for them. In my opinion this is more than art this is something which is emblematic for the construction by this period. Another thing which makes this a unique piece of art is that after finishing the tower many of the famous painters started to visit Pisa and settle their camp near by the tower and paint many pictures from each side of the monument so they painted in different angle. Therefore today you can see many different pictures of leaning tower of Pisa sometimes is leaning left side, in other cases backwards. This is unique because each painter interpret this tower by himself and shows to the world his own view and own understanding of this piece of art which is imbibed for many people which are involved in art. One more thing proving the uniqueness of this monument is that even today the great mass continues to sink very slowly. It is a question of about 1 mm. every year. Since nobody can state with mathematical security that this sinking will continue in the future at the present yearly rate, without its ceasing, remedies by means of adequate measures, based on scientific studies and projects, are under consideration. In the meantime supervision with instruments of very high precision is continuously being carried out. In my opinion, the leaning tower of Pisa can be connceted to the semiology by this way. As we know semiology is a study of a sign and it can be applied to many things and one of them is architectural monuments as is this tower. So the tower in Pisa is absolute sign for the city and it is their symbol which represents them in front of the entire world. Therefore the Pisans (locals) finished it when she collapsed, because they really want this monument to be in their city to show that the Italians did not give up. Nowadays when you hear Pisa the first association is the leaning tower therefore this is a sign which makes this city so famous and visited by many tourists every year. In conclusion I would like to say that it does not matter that this thing which you look at is something really unique or is something very simple like a small stone standing in the corner of an art gallery everything can be art it depends on how you see the things and how they touch your sense. We can find art all over the place; it depends on the ways of seeing. The Eiffel Tower This is a 19th century iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris that has become both a global icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower, which is the tallest building in Paris, is the single most visited paid monument in the world; millions of people ascend it every year. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built as the entrance arch for the 1889 Worlds Fair. The tower stands at 324 m tall, It was the tallest structure in the world from its completion until 1930, when it was eclipsed by the Chrysler Building in New York City. The tower has three levels for visitors. The walk to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the walk from the first to the second level. The third and highest level is accessible only by lift. The tower has become the most prominent symbol of both Paris and France. Its iconic status is so established that it even serves as a symbol for the entire nation of France, such as when it was used as the logo for the French bid to host the 1992 Summer Olympics. When it was built after its completion it was considered to be one of the ugliest buildings in the world, but for me this is incredible piece of art and now it is one of the most impressive buildings in the world. I have been under the Eiffel Tower and thing which impress me a lot is the design. If we have to say something about how it is connected to tourism we just must notice how popular is: more than 200,000,000 people have visited the tower since its construction in 1889, including 6,719,200 in 2006, making it the most visited paid monument in the world. Another interesting thing which is good to be mentioned is that The Eiffel Tower is also very reproductive: As one of the most iconic images in the world, the Eiffel Tower has been the inspiration for dozens of duplicate and similar towers around the world. Aesthetics: is concerned with the theory of beauty, but today it tends to be just concerned with the question of how we decide whether a work of art is good or not. Most judgments of this sort are based on either issues of form or content. For me the Eiffel Tower is great piece of work. From aesthetics point of view in order to maintain a uniform appearance to an observer on the ground, three separate colors of paint are used on the tower, with the darkest on the bottom and the lightest at the top. On occasion the colour of the paint is changed; the tower is currently painted a shade of brownish-grey. On the first floor there are interactive consoles hosting a poll for the colour to use for a future session of painting the only non-structural elements are the four decorative grillwork arches, added in Stephen Sauvestres sketches, which served to reassure visitors that the structure was safe, and to frame views of other nearby architecture. Hermeneutics: This is essentially the philosophy of interpretation and meaning. It began as the study Biblical texts, but in the last 450 years has expanded to cover all forms of culture. There are a number of different approaches to hermeneutics but they all deal with very similar questions and issues. How is our interpretation influenced and determined by our level of knowledge and our position in history, society and culture? How can we try to ensure that our interpretation of signifiers, words, language, arts, culture is a good one? I think that Eiffel Tower is piece of art because it is so great and tall, built so many years ago the tallest building in Europe. In the beginning the Paris citizens did not like it but now it is one of the most popular buildings in the world. The Eiffel Tower becomes very popular tourist attraction. So many people are going to see this attraction every year, to climb to top where they can see half of Paris. For me it is very beautiful land art. It inspires me when I am on top the feeling is great, built from so many fragments and so many people are working to keep it in perfect condition for the tourist. For conclusion I want to say that for me The Eiffel Tower is something very nice and everyone has to climb to the top to feel the wind.

Anthony once said, ââ¬Å"The true republic: men, their rights and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing less.â⬠In the plays Antigone, by Sophocles, and A Dollââ¬â¢s House, by Henrik Ibsen, strong women overcome restrictions and limitations placed upon them by their society and gender. In Antigone, Antigone chooses to defy Creon, her ruler, uncle, and a male authority figure, to support what she believes is right, which is burying her brother and respecting the gods. Though it was forbidden for her brother to be buried because of Creonââ¬â¢s decree, she resists, and in doing so, feels empowered and discovers what a strong woman she truly is. Similarly, in A Dollââ¬â¢s House, Nora is hindered by how the society in which she lives views women and their capabilities. After saving her husbandââ¬â¢s life and keeping the secret of a forgery that could potentially destroy her marriage, Nora discovers that her husband is not who she thinks he is when he tu rns on her as soon as his reputation is threatened. Through leaving her husband, Helmer, she aims to make a life for herself and become her own person rather than just her husbandââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"doll.â⬠Both of these women, Antigone and Nora, make choices that are unheard of for their time periods and that demonstrate the importance of equal relationships between women and men. Through Sophocles and Ibsenââ¬â¢s plays, women in modern times can understand how women are repressed and subservient to men in male-dominated societies. An understanding of the restrictions placed on women requires an analysis of the charactersââ¬â¢ submission to men, the expectations placed upon them by society, and their search to find their inner voices through their struggles to be heard. Sophocles and Ibsen alike portray strong women who defy societyââ¬â¢s expectations, do not bend to the wills of men, and who discover themselves while fighting for their rights. The actions taken by Nora and Antigone are remarkable for the time periods in which they live, especially with patriarchal societies. By analyzing these plays, women can determine how to become independent and not always conform to societyââ¬â¢s expectations, just as Nora and Antigone do. Relationships between men and women are changing, through time, to become more equal and accepting of strong-willed women. Women worldwide are slowly shrugging off the chains of restrictions placed upon them by the males in their lives and are growing confident enough in themselves to make changes for the better.
